Specialist Veijo Höök works at Vilppula sawmill as a supervisor in the log feeder line, where the logs are measured and fed into the line. During his long career, Veijo has worked in almost every station at the sawmill from log sorting to saw blade maintenance.
“Working in the mechanical wood processing industry has changed much over thirty years. Working conditions, in particular, have improved significantly. Nowadays, health and safety at work plays an increasingly important role and is under constant development. Employees’ vocational development is greatly encouraged at Metsäliitto. After nurturing my three children into adulthood, I started vocational studies related to the sawmilling industry. I gained a comprehensive view of sawmilling and became motivated to continue my studies. Now I’m studying to qualify as a sawmill foreman.
I find that the excellent supportive atmosphere at Vilppula is the most motivating thing in my job. The openness we have there encourages continuous feedback and development. My long career and studies have given me excellent chances to develop myself,” says Veijo.
Veijo has posted his ideas into Vilppula’s suggestion box and has been rewarded for his improvement suggestions several times.
