Energy-efficient life cycle
The raw material is utilised to the full

Wood acquired from sustainably managed forests is a fully renewable, energy-efficient and recyclable raw material. Compared to the production of other building products, the manufacturing process for wood products uses only a small amount of energy. Most of the energy is bioenergy. Due to the lightweight structure of wood products and the domestic origin of the raw material, the environmental impact caused by transportation also remains low.

In Metsäliitto Group, wood raw material is utilised to the fullest during the manufacture of different products. The by-products of Finnforest – wood chips, sawdust and bark – are used as raw material for production plants or bioenergy production. Once the life cycle of a wood product ends, it can be burned and the energy thus produced recovered.

Life cycle thinking is also an essential part of construction. It covers the entire life cycle of a building from planning to the construction process and property maintenance. The objective is to maximise material and energy efficiency and to minimise the environmental impacts of the service or product. We constantly develop building products suitable for low-energy and passive-energy solutions.
